Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and create mechanical designs in 3D SolidWorks for custom automation systems.
  • Generate innovative concepts for technically advanced factory automation solutions in a wide variety of projects.
  • Present concept designs to the customer and internal team members, along with quote documents.
  • Research and select mechanical components to meet functional, cost and performance requirements.
  • Create detailed drawing packages for manufacturing that include tolerance/dimensions, bills of materials, and assembly drawings.
  • Review and optimize designs for performance, manufacturability and cost.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues during build and commissioning phases.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and develop solutions to mechanical build issues.
  • Ability to identify and follow any design risks, understand project scope and customer specifications.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, leading or supporting mechanical design projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in the automation/custom machine build field or related industry.
  • Computer Expertise: Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint.
  • Strong working knowledge of developing concepts and finalizing designs for multiple projects.
  • Understanding of custom automation machine design, including pneumatics, industrial/collaborative robots, vision systems, laser systems, assembly, welding, etc.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components, sizing, and lifecycle considerations.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Development of PLC, Robot and HMI Programs offline using custom electrical design and mechanical drawings for reference.
  • Set up and configure the network architecture between devices and supporting equipment.
  • Work in collaboration with project managers, project leads, build leads, mechanical designers, machine tool builders, and electricians to successfully complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Mentor and train entry-level employees in their role and assist with the continual development of controls, architecture standards, and best practices.
  • Support factory acceptance testing of equipment, customer site acceptance testing, and operator and maintenance training programs.
Software and Hardware Expertise
  • Beckhoff / Allen Bradley / Omron / Siemens
  • Kawasaki / Kuka / Fanuc / ABB / Yaskawa/Motoman / Toshiba Machine
  • Vision Guided Robotics – Custom & Standard Platforms
  • Data Management – Database Integration with PLC
  • Ignition, TwinCAT HMI, and SCADA experience is an asset.
Qualifications
  • A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a licensed Trade equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in custom automation.
  • Understand custom machine-building processes, including vision, laser, and assembly.
  • Understanding of the Ontario Electrical Code and electrical circuits.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the mechanical design team during the mechanical design phase to develop a control system that enables machine functionality and meets the quoted and customer controls specification requirements.
  • Specify all control hardware and produce a Bill of Materials for purchasing, monitoring availability and conformance.
  • Development of communication architecture and I/O Interfacing.
  • Work with other members of the Controls Design Team to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate Designers in electrical design decisions and provide feedback on continuous improvement.
  • Present a complete electrical design package, which includes detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring and bill of materials on time and on budget.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with Panel Build & Machine Wire Team to ensure quality, revisions and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate internal and customer design reviews.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 2-3 year Community College Diploma in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, Technology or related Automation experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience in Control System Design.
  • PLC programming, as well as knowledge of Machinery and Functional Safety, is an asset.
  • Applicants must have 3-5 years of experience in the Custom Automation Industry or a similar field.
  • Experience in Fluid Power Systems is an asset.
  • Ability to work as part of a larger team as well as independently.
  • Hands-on mechanical, electrical, or troubleshooting experience an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Project and Excel applications.
  • Understanding of the Ontario Electrical Code.
  • Valid driver’s licence and passport.
